Our history - Hohnholt historically

Are you interested in the history of our house? Then we invite you to a historical journey through two centuries:

Our great-grandmother knew the construction branch of her husband, where there had to be carried out daily many plans and drawings, three, four, and more times. A time consuming cumbersome handcraft, but even costly. Could this situation be changed?Caroline Hohnholt informed herself about the new technology of copying from which she had read. And started thinking. When idea agreed with actuality, she let register in 1902 the business of a "Paus- und Kopieranstalt". On the roof of the house of the Buchtstrasse 10, the first copies had arosen. Our great-grandmother helped herself with rays of the sun. A highly unreliable way of working, as you can imagine. But a start, which should lead to success.

Most inventions are mayflies. Even today, as the scientists and engineers provide all sorts of technical aids that are available fail in nine out of ten inventions. Some, however, reach a high age.
The invention of the light technical reproduction, of which men independently in Germany, Great Britain and France dealt with, an entire industry burst into bloom.

But our great-grandmother could not know anything about that at the beginning of the last century. She has recognized the gap in the market and pursued her craft idea with endurance. And because every idea has its price, she was sending a price list to interested parties. No one should believe that he worked for it to buy a pig in a poke. But there is also nothing in vain. Builders, architects, engineers and shipbuilding companies learned the advantage of rapid reproduction very soon to appreciate and took their drawings to the Buchtstrasse, where they were lifted with a small lift to the top floor. Even then climbing stairs was unpopular. However, when Carolines son, our grandfather, Friedrich C. Hohnholt joined the company, he acknowledged that they were pretty deep and that had to be changed.

Out of the shop floor under the roof he build his business on the ground floor, replaced the unreliable sun's rays with carbon lamps, bought the latest type cameras and took possession in the dry-Lichtpaus procedure.
Frederick C. Hohnholts son Werner followed the suggestions of his father and helped with own ideas and impulses the reproductive technology at the importance, that it had for trade and commerce, industry, administration, advertising and architects.
The service portfolio included all methods of reproduction lighting - from the copy to the print - as a tool for information and documentation: The Lichtpaus procedures, the various photocopying process, the microfilm technology, the technical digital photography, the big picture and the small offset print, print for flat small and medium quantities in the format to a maximum of ISO DIN A 2.
In addition there was a apparatus for the negative production of drawings, plans, books, documents, records, papers, graphics, strong films, stitches and all kinds of bremensien in size up to ISO DIN A 1, or more. From a negative in return, the enlargement or reduction to each desired formats took place. For the production of negatives each side had a brightness of at least 2000 watts.

Up to now the philosophy of the company Hohnholt counts on the pioneer spirit, team spirit and creativity. The used coal lamps and the chemical used vanished today. The print on demand characterizes what is happening today in the company, which consistently converted to the digital printing. The CEO Günter Hohnholt equipped as one of the first machinery to the digital printing.
